A Space Ship ? At least that’s what Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, calls it, but no, its the new Apple Headquarters Campus in Cupertino, California. A couple of months ago, Jobs presented the new building’s concept renderings to the city council to obtain preliminary approval, Cupertino mayor said, there is no chance we’re saying no to the new Apple campus.
Designed by Foster + partners, the space-ship-like building will comprise approximately 265,000 square meters (2.8 million square feet), consisting of 4 stories and, upon completion in 2015, will be bigger in size than the pentagon, and can hold up to 13,000 employees.
The loop-shaped campus will provide office, research and development facilities, as well as a company fitness center, a cafe, a 1000-seat auditorium and a proposed circular park for staff at the central court of the building. The campus will also feature an on-site low carbon Central Plant that will supply the majority of electricity needed for the enormous campus.
Apple is aiming at providing its employees with a hospitable and smart environment, promising the efficiency and convenience of a distinctive and inspiring 21st century workplace.
