In a new open space in front of Université du Québec à Montréal’s Science Faculty, Canadian design collective Daily Tous Les Jours has just completed their project 21 Balançoires (21 Swings), an installation of swings turned into enormous musical instruments that also light up from below. The designers, known for their wide variety of interactive public installations and experiences, managed to focus primarily on public engagement and interest. Every set of 3 or 4 swings, when moved, pre-recorded sounds from a xylophone, piano, and other instruments are programmed to play various notes, giving the public a challenge to synchronize their swinging for more complex tunes and musical solos…
