In 1927 Claude Friese-Greene, one of the British pioneers of film, traveled around England with his new color film camera and in the end of his trip captured some stunning shots of London‘s everyday life. Starting February 2013 filmmaker Simon Smith took a challenge of recreating same exact images taken 86 years ago. Fun personal study resulted into interesting conclusion – with all modern additions and time passing London hasn’t changed that much after all. Enjoy the fascinating video comparison.
British agency Rosie Lee has recently redesigned Nike headquarters in central London, UK. Three-floor head office consists of a designated color, hand-painted illustrations and text graphics referencing milestones from the brand’s history. “Nike wanted to utilize its rich brand and product heritage to bring to life the company’s London headquarters,” said Stephen Bates of Rosie Lee. To turn the concept into action Rosie Lee engaged a team of London’s leading illustrators, artists and interior decorators such as Chris Martin, Rob Flowers and others. New look of the office brought to Nike lively and visually rich work space as well as excitement and appreciation among staff.
Few days ago, on July 25, 2013, a giant blue rooster appeared amid London’s Trafalgar Square. The 4.7 meters (15 feet) installation is called “Hahn/Cock” and made by German artist Katharina Fritsch. This is the most recent sculpture to occupy the Forth Plinth, which every now and then is carrying the artwork of the art contest winner, organized by London’s mayor Boris Johnson. The enormous bird supposed to symbolize the male-dominated Britain and will remain on the plinth for 18 months.
Kornel Flint – UK-based, polish-born photographer, after moving to London early 2012, he fell in love with the city and ever since, every now and then, he loves to grab his camera, tripod and go out to shoot his new home city. American architectural theorist, landscape architect and designer Charles Jencks is the brilliant mind behind this fabulous flight of stairs, located in the Garden of Cosmic Speculation in Scotland. The stairs have 25 landings that mark the important shifts in cosmic history. Starting at the top, in the present day, and descending down, visitors are moving through 13 billion years of cosmic evolution. The steps finally disappear into the dark water below, which represents the mystery of the origin of the universe.
